Dear Parents and Students

Welcome to the Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Information

We are delighted that you have been offered a place at Northampton School for Boys and we look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful school. We have lots of exciting plans to get to know you better throughout the summer term:

  • In May and June we will host our Transition Cluster School events for upcoming Year 7 students. This is an opportunity to visit the school, meet key staff, make new friends and get excited about joining us in September.
  • In June, we will invite families to our Year 6 Intake Evening. This event is an opportunity to share information and ask questions.
  • We have already been speaking to your teachers in your primary school to help us to make sure we are ready to meet all children’s needs in September.
  • We also hold additional transition meetings for students who require extra support. These days are designed, but are not exclusive to students who have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities, and students who may require additional support with the transition to secondary school. If you/your child feels an additional transition session is required, please contact Mrs Alison Hollobon by email: ahollobon@nsb.northants.sch.uk or telephone 01604 230240.

You will also have your Transfer Day on Monday, 3rd July and in September, will start school a day before the other students. This will be on Tuesday, 5th September and will be your first day as an NSB student. More details about this will be sent to home in due course.

At Northampton School for Boys we are proud of the links we have with our local community and know the importance of parents, teachers and students talking together and supporting one another. Should you wish to discuss your child’s transition to secondary school or arrange a school visit, please contact Mrs Alison Hollobon, Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Manager by email: ahollobon@nsb.northants.sch.uk or call 01604 230240.

Below you will find links to videos from students, a tour of the school, documents and information for parents and students to digest, but here’s some of the frequently asked questions:

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get in touch if I have any concerns regarding transition?

In the first instance, please contact Mrs Hollobon, Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Manager by email: ahollobon@nsb.northants.sch.uk

What happens if I am the only person from my primary school and I don’t know anyone?

Many of you will be the only one coming from your primary school but as detailed above, there are lots of opportunities for you to get to know others before September. In your first week, your tutor will also support you in making new friends, finding your way around and understanding your timetable. We also have a fantastic House Leadership Team who are great role-models and will be happy to show you the way and help you settle in.

What equipment will I need on my first day?

On your first day at Northampton School for Boys you will need to bring a school bag that is large enough to carry all of your books, stationery and P.E. kit. You will find all of this in our Transition Booklet on the website.

What do I do if I forget something?

At our Cluster Schools event you will go through how to plan your day and what to pack in your bag. You will be given your timetable on the first day to help you get organised with packing your bag the night before school. You can contact teachers quickly and easily via Microsoft Teams – we will teach you how to use this in September and you will be an expert in no time! Stationery can be bought from Student Services at break and lunch should you need to replace equipment.  They can also help with printing new timetables, should these get lost.

What uniform do I wear?

You will be given information on how to order your uniform. This information is also shared in the Transition Booklet on the website. (Go to the Uniform page for more information: Uniform)

ParentPay

We operate a cashless system at school. We will be sending out ParentPay activation letters over the summer holidays, so please keep an eye out for these – they will be posted to your home address. You will need to activate your ParentPay account to enable you to pay for school meals, trips and other items.
