FORTHCOMING ROADWORKS
Important information regarding forthcoming roadworks taking place on Billing Road
It is important that all parents and students are aware of the forthcoming roadworks which will centre around the junction between Billing Road, Rushmere Road, Park Avenue South and Billing Road East. This is the road junction closest to school and the associated works are going to impact the travel routes and times for many of our students and families.
Start Date:
Monday 21st October from 10am
This is the teacher training day at the start of the final week of this term. Works have kindly been scheduled to start after the drop off times for the departure of Year 8 and Year 12 Residential Education trips.
Reminder - all parents dropping students off for one of these trips must drop at the front of school and NOT at the Sports Hall Car Park.
Duration of Works:
The projected completion date of these works is Friday 13th December and we can therefore expect the disruption to affect this area for a minimum of 6 – 8 weeks.
Summary Map of Affected Areas:
Park Avenue South: Open: Temporary Lights
Billing Road: Open: Temporary Lights
Rushmere Road: Open: Temporary Lights
Billing Road East: Closed: Closure to all traffic and pedestrians at the junction
Billing Road East diversionary route for pedestrians / cyclists is on Watersmeet / Cheriton Way.
Temporary pedestrian crossing on Rushmere Road for safe crossing
Diversionary routes for traffic will be posted by West Northamptonshire Council.
What You Need to Know:
Billing Road East:
- Will be closed to all traffic and all pedestrians at the junction.
- Diversionary routes will be in place for all traffic, pedestrians and cyclists.
- The proposed pedestrian / cyclist diversion is via Watersmeet / Cheriton Way and will lead students to a temporary pedestrian crossing for the safe movement across Rushmere Road.
- Bus routes will be diverted.
Billing Road, Park Avenue South and Rushmere Road.
- A temporary 3-way traffic light system will control vehicles moving between these three roads.
- Pathways and bus stops will remain open, or at least passable with temporary barriers in place at times.
- There will be some overnight closures of the entire junction for resurfacing and marking purposes towards the end of the project period. These will not affect travel to and from school, but may affect those who use the junction at other times.
Likely Impact:
- We can expect significant delays for traffic at the busier times of day.
- All students and parents are advised to allow an additional 15 minutes travel time for movement to and from school during this period.
- It is likely that traffic will be heavy and delays predictable through Cliftonville, on Ardington Rd and other local streets as motorists attempt to avoid the junction.
- It would be prudent for motorists to avoid the junction if possible and for parents who would ordinarily drop or pick up on Billing Road to consider a ‘drop and walk’ arrangement, that uses safe walking routes with pedestrian crossings, for the duration of these works.
