Breaking News - Executive Headteacher of the NSB Trust - Richard Bernard - awarded MBE for Services to Education

The NSB Trust are delighted to share the news that Executive Headteacher - Richard Bernard has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for Services to Education in the King's Birthday Honours List, which was released in the London Gazette late on Friday evening.
This prestigious royal honour recognises Richard's outstanding leadership as Headteacher of NSB since 2014 as well as his executive role in the development of Northampton School and the wider NSB Trust. Over the past twelve years, thousands of NSB and NS students have benefitted from his determination to realise the Trust's vision of inspiring and empowering all students to meet their potential both in and out of the classroom.

Before taking the helm at NSB, Richard developed his teaching and leadership skills at Swanmead School in Somerset before moving to Northamptonshire, where he served on successful Senior Leadership teams at both Danetre School and Brooke Weston Academy. He also spent several years, during his time as Vice Principal at Brooke Weston, serving as an Inspector for Ofsted.
Throughout his distinguished career, Richard has always been a passionate driver of the importance of a rich extracurricular programme for children and the linked benefits to academic performance, behaviour, physical / mental health and attendance. The outstanding student achievements at NSB and NS, many of which have been heralded by the national media, pay testimony to the aspirational culture of success that Richard has been instrumental in creating for students across The NSB Trust - the impact of which has been particularly notable every year through the exceptional student outcomes in public exams and in the expressive arts, music and sport.

Outside of his teaching career, Richard has been heavily involved in the development of youth sport and sports leadership - previously coaching numerous district and county tennis and football age group teams, as well as captaining Loughborough University and Somerset Men at tennis. He is currently enjoying his role as Honorary President of the Old Northamptonians Sports Club, which is inextricably linked to NSB, both in terms of its history and values.
'I am thrilled and very proud to be awarded an MBE for Services to Education. This level of recognition would not have been possible without the fantastic work of the students and staff across the NSB Trust community and I am delighted to accept the award very much on their behalf.' Richard Bernard, Executive Headteacher - The NSB Trust
Congratulations to Richard on this well deserved accolade!
