Headmaster's Bulletin 8th September 2017

Following two highly productive training days the staff were delighted to welcome back the students on Tuesday. Expectations have been set out in assemblies for each year group and I have been very pleased with the response from the students and the manner in which they have approached the beginning of the school year. Special mention needs to be made of our new Year 7 and Year 12 who are settling in impressively.

We have much to celebrate from the summer with an outstanding set of GCSE exam results supported by grades at A Level which have enabled virtually all of our leavers to go to their university or employment destination of choice. 2017/18 will be the first year in which virtually all GCSEs and A Levels sat will be in the new, revised linear format. Parents/Carers are reminded that due to the switch to numerical gradings at GCSE we realigned our target setting and assessment framework for Years 7-11 last year, please Click Here.

The school is exceptionally proud of the phenomenal recent success earned by three of our students, Ollie Sleightholme, Josh Lay and Eithan James at the start of the summer holidays, when they represented England at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas with all three returning with medals. Josh achieved silver in the 1500m, Ollie silver in the rugby sevens and Eithan gold in the 52kg boxing.

We have our first rugby fixtures of the season on Saturday with a full fixture card against Loughborough Grammar and it will be particularly interesting to see how the new U12s shape up. Next week we look forward to meeting Year 12 parents on Thursday where there will be opportunity for parents to listen to senior staff, meet the relevant form tutor and be informed about the Bude residential trip.

Finally, the highly talented,  2017 Year 13 leaving Drama students will have the opportunity to entertain The Cripps Hall Theatre audience for a final time next Sunday at 7.00pm in their rendition of ‘Annie jr.’and tickets are now available from the Box Office.
