Year 7 enjoyed a special assembly and PSHE themed morning on Monday. Mrs Greenaway reports -

As part of our Personal Development Programme an external agency, which has been touring schools in the county with 'Carry a Basketball not a Blade', visited NSB this week to work with the Y7s . This included an inspirational assembly from Andre Arissol, a professional basketball player, about following your dreams and getting involved in positive extra-curricular activities as well as being respectful, empathic and hardworking.  There was also a workshop from Anna Letts, trained teacher and workshop leader, surrounding crime and the law and how to report crime using fearless.org, alongside a brilliant practical basketball coaching session. The students were so receptive and fully engaged in all aspects of the day. Students reported that ' it was a brilliant morning, Andre was amazing and he carried a very clear message about the dangers of knives and the importance of safe and healthy behaviour - the basketball was amazing!'.

This week Sixth Form Race Ambassadors have been leading Holocaust Memorial Presentations for students in the younger years. The theme this year is 'Fragility of Freedom' and the students talked with great clarity and sensitivity about the Holocaust and further genocides across the World that have happened since World War 2. The Sixth Formers also created associated material for students to discuss in the morning PD sessions throughout the week, supported by Miss Adabale.

Well done to the NSB Cross Country runners who dominated the County Championships last Saturday, particularly to Alice Bennett who won the Senior Girls race. 27 NSB runners across all of the age groups, have qualified for the Regional Finals - the Anglian Trophy. Congratulations also to the U13 and U14 Football A Teams who have reached the National Cup Quarter Finals / Round of 16 respectively.

University and Apprenticeship offers are starting to flood in for our Year 13 students, including a fantastic six offers from Oxford and Cambridge University in the following subjects: History, Maths (x2), English, Architecture and Spanish.

Finally, we are very much looking forward to the Jazz @ the Cripps, New Year Spectacular this Sunday evening (7pm), featuring Our NSB Big Band and Folk Group, as well as the mighty BBC Big Band and world famous vocalist, Claire Martin, Tickets are available from the NSB Box Office.
