Headmaster's Bulletin 28th January 2022
I’m pleased to announce that yesterday afternoon, West Northamptonshire Council gave unanimous planning approval for our new Free School – Northampton School, conditional on some outstanding details being agreed between the Department for Education and the Local Council. We are currently targeting a September 2023 opening.
Tuesday lunch of this week saw NSB students from the lower and upper school take part in the Big Schools' Birdwatch spearheaded by Mr Bradbury and Mrs Mindham. An enthusiastic atmosphere pervaded across the participating students with the results yielding interesting outcomes. As expected, black headed gulls were prevalent however, overall there were over 100 birds spotted across the NSB grounds, including 14 different species encompassing: robins, red kites, pied wagtails, magpies, blue tits, blackbirds, house sparrows, starlings and a variety of crows and pigeons.
Our results will contribute towards the national survey for schools and many of our students will also be taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend.
A cup tie atmosphere permeated across the school playing fields on Tuesday afternoon with a double header of National Cup Quarter Finals against South Hunsley School, Yorkshire. The U12 A team continued their scintillating form with a dominant 5-1 victory whilst the U15B team edged an extremely tight contest 1-0 with this outstanding winner by Joseph Salisbury - a fitting way to christen the new NSB coloured nets!
For the first time in the ESFA’s (English Schools’ Football Association) history the draws for the National Cup Semi-Finals and remaining Quarter-Finals will be streamed live on ESFA tv on Monday, February 7th from 5.00pm. Congratulations also to Nathan Lamb Y9 and Alice Bates Y12 who were crowned County Cross Country champions last weekend with 12 other NSB runners also making the county team for the forthcoming National Finals.
Finally, a final reminder of the NSB concert featuring the BBC Big Band this Sunday with tickets still available from the Box Office.
