Northampton School for Boys

Headmaster's Bulletin 16th July 2021

We say fond farewells next week to several staff who are mostly either retiring or moving abroad. Top of the longevity list are Martin Grisley (Economics), Robert Taylor (Chemistry) and Marcus Lyon (RE) who have served the school brilliantly for 37 years, 27 years and 13 years respectively and they will be sorely missed. We also send our thanks and very best wishes for the future to:

  • Bob Whitehead (Estates)
  • Joe Rolleston (History)
  • Tiernan Kilcoyne (Geography)
  • Romain Pietropaoli (French)
  • Victoria King (Teaching School)

It has been a busy week for students with PSHE (Personal Social & Health Education activities) and Sports Days within the adjusted curriculum for this week. The Mini- Sports Day results are in for Years 7-10 and Year 12 from the various year group competitions with those isolating from home also having the opportunity to contribute to the final placings. Congratulations to the following Houses for winning their events:

  • Year 7: Chipsey
  • Year 8: Chipsey
  • Year 9: Washington
  • Year 10: Brightwell
  • Year 12: Manley

It was a very frustrating decision to have to postpone the 'Picnic in the Park Concert' this Saturday due to several key staff isolating but unfortunately the only viable one in the circumstances. We are looking forward now to the re-arranged date of 4th September.

I have written to all parents and carers today to outline relevant changes to the COVID-19 operational arrangements which begin from the government’s Step 4 out of national lockdown next Monday. From 19th July, the school will no longer be responsible for close contact tracing which will switch to the NHS Test and Trace systems. The letter also sets out the COVID-19 management systems at the school which will be in place from the beginning of the new academic year.

Students in all year groups should be very proud of the resilience and application they have demonstrated towards their studies over such a turbulent year. A reminder that the term will end on Tuesday next week at 1.00pm for students in Years 7/8/9 and 1.10pm for students in Years 10/12.

I very much hope all connected to the school have a fantastic summer break and we look forward to seeing returning students in September. Year 7 and Year 12 students will return on Friday 3rd September for their Induction Day. All other students return on Monday 6th September.
