Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, October 16th 2026

It has been another outstanding week for NSB, with notable successes across music, careers and sport, and plenty to look forward to over the coming days.
Our Music Department has enjoyed a particularly memorable fortnight, with prestigious scholarships, Grade 8 recognition and a brilliant concert on Thursday evening. Director of Music, Mrs Yates, reports:
We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of three Year 13 music students who have been awarded NMPAT Fellowships this year:
-
Alessia Della-Vedova – Vocals
-
Noah Grant – Piano
-
Auguste Yoong – Guitar
The NMPAT Fellowship Competition is a prestigious annual competition for the county’s most outstanding young musicians. Students are nominated by NMPAT staff and departments before progressing through a highly competitive audition process, with only a small number reaching the Fellowship Finals. Last week, the finalists performed a live recital before an expert panel of adjudicators.

To have three NSB students awarded Fellowships is an exceptional accomplishment and testament to their musical talent, dedication and hard work.
Daniel Halls in Year 11 has also recently achieved Grade 8 Piano with Merit – another outstanding musical achievement.
On Thursday evening, we put on a fantastic show for our Hollywood Harmonies concert! The evening featured a wonderful range of ensembles and bands, performing music from the big screen, with everyone getting into the Hollywood spirit by dressing up in fabulous fancy dress!
A huge well done to all our talented musicians who performed so brilliantly, and to Joshua Myring, who did a fantastic job compering the evening. He even got the audience involved with some singing!
Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the evening such a success!
Upcoming dates for the music department include:
Fish & Chip Quiz – Friday 6 November
Christmas Concert – Wednesday 9 December

Last week, our Year 9 students stepped beyond the classroom as part of their Careers Education. Whole School Careers Lead, Miss Jackson, reports:
Our Year 9 students had the fantastic opportunity to experience the world of work during their Careers in Leisure Day at Gulliver’s Land. They gained a fascinating behind-the-scenes insight into the many roles involved in running a successful theme park, trying their hand at everything from maintenance, electrics and woodwork to catering, hosting, retail and ride operation. It was a valuable opportunity to explore a range of career pathways, develop new skills and understand the teamwork required to create an enjoyable experience for visitors. A big thank you to the team at Gulliver’s Land for providing such an engaging experience for our Year 9 cohort!

Our sports teams have continued the week's theme of high achievement. Having won the County Cup last year, our netballers travelled to Oundle School on Wednesday hoping for another strong showing – and certainly delivered. Mrs Harvey-Hodges reports:
The netball team headed to Oundle School on Wednesday with Mrs Harvey-Hodges and Mrs Barlow for their first fixture of the season – the County Cup. Despite having played together for only six weeks, the team showed excellent chemistry, winning four of their five matches convincingly and qualifying for the Regional rounds. There were brilliant performances throughout, especially from Daisy Hinde and Evie Fontenla, whose leadership and game management helped secure the team's position as first runners-up. We look forward to testing ourselves at regional level in January!

Our cross-country runners enjoyed similar success at another Oundle-hosted event, excelling in the Junior and Intermediate Boys' First Round of the ESAA Cross Country Cup. Both teams were victorious, with Rex Nicklin winning the Junior Boys' race and Alex Kampta claiming the Intermediate Boys' individual title. The Regional Final takes place on 5 November at Stowe School, where our Senior Boys and Girls will also compete.

Our First XV are also rising impressively to the challenge of matching last season's heroics. On Thursday, they faced a powerful Oakham School side in the second round of the National Cup. In an incredibly tight contest, NSB showed tremendous defensive resilience to emerge 29–24 winners. We now look forward to a home tie in the third round early next term. Today, our U18 Girls and U15 Boys are taking on some of the leading sides in the country at the St Joseph's Festival. One player who will be missed by NSB at St Joseph's is Talia Tonga'uiha who has been selected for this weekend's England U18's Training Camp - a phenomenal achievement!

Finally, there is a sensational feast of music planned for next Saturday, 24 October, when The Cripps hosts the 21st Malcolm Arnold Festival. Internationally renowned cellist Julian Lloyd Webber will launch the Festival, followed by a wonderful line-up of acclaimed musicians. The occasion is made all the more special by Sir Malcolm Arnold's own connection with NSB as a former student.
