Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, June 26th 2026

Despite the truncated week due to the heat and the Training Day, NSB students have continued to excel in a number of wide-ranging activities.
There have been a number of trips out - Mr Houndslow reports on a behind the scenes visit for Year 10 food students to an AA Graded Rosette restaurant and Miss Imison reports on a rather sweltering but inspirational trip to Hampton Court for Year 12 historians:
NSB GCSE Food Students Gain Professional Culinary Experience at Nuovo
GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students from NSB recently enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to Nuovo Restaurant, a one-rosette restaurant in Northampton, where they had the opportunity to work alongside professional chefs and develop key practical skills in preparation for their Year 11 NEA 2 assessment.
During the visit, students were involved in the preparation of two restaurant-quality dishes. They demonstrated precision and teamwork while rolling a ballotine of beef rotolo and learned specialist cooking techniques by deep-frying and presenting a vegetarian arancini. These hands-on experiences helped students further develop their food preparation, cooking and presentation skills, all of which are essential components of the GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition course.
Following the practical session, students were able to enjoy the dishes they had helped create as part of a delicious two-course lunch, gaining valuable insight into both professional kitchen operations and high-quality food service.
The visit was a tremendous success, with students representing NSB exceptionally well throughout the afternoon. Their behaviour was outstanding, and the restaurant team commented on how impressed they were with the students’ technical knowledge, enthusiasm and practical skills.
Experiences such as these play a vital role in helping students understand industry standards while building confidence ahead of their NEA 2 coursework. NSB would like to thank the staff at Nuovo for providing such a valuable and memorable learning opportunity for our students.
Tudor Life at Hampton Court
The History Department took the Year 12 Historians to a very warm Hampton Court this week. It was an incredibly valuable experience that supported their A Level studies and helped them understand the complexities of the Tudor Court, specifically during Henry VIII's leadership. The students were exceptionally well behaved and enthusiastic and, as ever, a credit to the school."

NSB athletes are continuing to take the Midlands by storm, Mr Taplin reports on a fantastic set of performances at the Regional Championships last weekend in Stoke:
It has often been said that NSB athletes can perform well at Corby but can they do it on a beautiful sunny day in Stoke? If this weekend is anything to go by the answer is a resounding 'YES'!!
Following last weekend's County Championships 10 NSB students were selected to represent Northamptonshire at the Mason Trophy in Stoke. This is competition between some of the strongest Counties in the region and includes West Midlands and Greater Manchester. It is an excellent standard. The results are below:
