Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, February 6th 2026

Following the national remark process, the final GCSE tables for the summer 2025 results were released by the Department of Education this week. I am delighted to report that NSB placed top of the Local Authority ranking lists for each of the GCSE Key Performance Indicators - Highest Average GCSE Points Score (highest grade per entry) - 5.82 / Highest Percentage of the Cohort achieving a Grade 5 (strong pass) plus in both English and Maths - 71.6% and Highest Points Score per EBacc subject - 5.36. A huge well done to all the students and staff involved in achieving this excellent set of results.

Offers from Universities / Apprenticeships are flooding in for our Year 13 students and we were delighted to hear amongst the sea of application success that an impressive seven of our cohort have received Oxbridge offers. Well done to the following:

Anika Chatterjee - Cambridge - Natural Sciences

Oliver Davison - Cambridge - Natural Sciences

Karl Edochie - Cambridge - Engineering

James Hackett - Oxford - Physics

Freya Harris - Cambridge - Natural Sciences

Angus MacGregor - Oxford - PPE

Edward Rushmore - Cambridge - Maths

It's been a stellar week for NSB Basketball with three National Cup / CBL wins and a further U17 National Cup match to be played today. The U15s in Water Polo also played very well to come joint top of their Semi-Final group which qualifies them for the top tier Cup Final later this year. Many congratulations to all of our U17 and U18 rugby players who are representing the Northampton Saints Academy against Bath this weekend and amongst that group, a very special well done to the sublimely talented Fin Shields in Y11 who, two years young, is the starting Fly Half in the U18 Saints Academy side for the second week running - a truly remarkable and we believe, possibly unprecedented achievement.  The U16s were just edged out by Warwick in a tremendous National Cup tie on Wednesday and attention now moves to the second leg of the trilogy of National Cup fixtures v Warwick over the next month when the U14s play their Quarter Final at home next Tuesday (February 10th) - 4pm kick off on the NSB First XV pitch.

Going a little quietly under the radar until now, are the Girls U18 Tennis Team who have been ploughing through the latter rounds of their National Cup. Mr Websdale is masterminding their progress and has given this report on their latest victory which takes them into the last 16 in the country.

On Wednesday, the U18 girls’ tennis team returned to action in the regional knockout stages, recording an impressive 10–2 victory over Tudor Hall School.

Hattie Kendrick and Summer Maradzika set the early momentum with commanding wins in their singles matches. Lucy Barr calmly battled back from 0–5 down to secure her singles 7-5.

In the doubles, Madeleine Gowler and Summer sealed the match for NSB with a confident 6–3 win, before Hattie and Lucy rounded off an exceptional team performance with further doubles success.

The team now progresses to Regional Round 2, with their sights firmly set on a place in the quarter-finals.

A massive well done too, to NSB Trust Director of Sport, Mr Burton who has been selected as starting point guard for the British Basketball Over 40s team for the forthcoming European Championships. Given the millions of men who are over 40 in GB, this again is a sensational achievement and hopefully inspiring for all of our budding NBA players!

Finally, following the enormous success of our recent KS3 Production, our Senior NSB Production - 'Cloud Busting' is approaching fast! Miss Clark has designed the poster which had to be approved by the National Theatre - they thought it was fantastic and may well use it themselves in the future!
