Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, January 16th 2026

We were delighted to welcome two Knights of the Realm today to the school in Sir Lloyd Dorfman and Sir Michael Ellis. Sir Lloyd, as well as being a world leading entrepreneur, is also an incredibly powerful leader of the Arts in England, chairing the Royal Opera House as well as being instrumental in the strategic direction of the National Theatre. Sir Michael, previous MP for Northampton North, has been a staunch supporter of NSB for many years and again has been pivotal in forging the strategic national path of the Arts when he held the position of Minister for the Arts before moving on to a number of senior political posts, including Attorney General of the UK. Our students were inspired by two talks from Sir Lloyd - one to the Year 12 Economics students around national and global business affairs and one to a packed Theatre audience on the importance of the Expressive Arts in society. Our visitors, in turn, were richly entertained by a fabulous NSB Expressive Arts Showcase of our most talented student performers in Music, Dance, Drama alongside an exceptional NSB Art and Photography exhibition.

On the Expressive Arts theme we are counting down the days to two major Arts events coming up with tickets available from the Box Office for the forthcoming Key Stage 3 production of Robin Hood on January 29th and 30th as well as the Jazz@The Cripps Concert on Sunday, January 25th featuring professional Swing Orchestra - Down for the Count.

On Thursday, we welcomed over 2000 visitors to our NSB Sixth Form Open Evening which had been postponed from last week due to the severe weather warning linked to Storm Goretti. The NSB Sixth Form is thriving and it was a delight to see so many Year 12/13 students talk so passionately about the subjects that they study with prospective applicants and their parents/ carers.

Readers of this Bulletin will be aware of the incredible success enjoyed by our NSB rugby teams this year and this week it was the turn of the girls who had their first major fixture of the new term at the start of a run of festivals and tournaments leading up to the prestigious Rosslyn Park Sevens in March. Our First V11 Girls squad played in a triangular tournament against Samuel Whitbread & Moulton College (mixed team) and Hills Road Sixth Form from Cambridge. The standard of play from all three teams was outstanding with NSB demonstrating a strong edge in skill, fitness and tactical nous which led to two impressive wins from two games played. It is an incredibly talented NSB squad who have every chance of going deep into the tournament at Rosslyn Park. There were also good wins this week in the Regional League for the U14A,U18A, U15A water polo teams and in the respective National Cups for the U16B, U12A, U12B football and U16A rugby teams.
