We said a fond goodbye on Wednesday to a tremendously loyal and outstanding employee of NSB in Louise Pawley who has worked at the school in a variety of Support Staff roles, including Headteacher's PA and Head of HR for the past thirty years. Following a gift presentation, Louise enjoyed a special lunch with the Administration Team, with many other members of staff dropping in to say their goodbyes and thanks to her!
The NSB Extracurricular programme is now in full swing and it has been great to see so many students having their out of class successes held up in lights.
Year 13 student and Deputy Head Boy - Stanley Rees is a Youth Ambassador to the Office of the Children's Commissioner and as part of his Ambassador role he was invited to speak at the recent Labour Party conference. Stanley spoke eloquently about the importance of schools and wider society supporting the hugely important work of Young Carers and we are extremely proud of how passionately he promoted such a key area on the National Stage.
Many congratulations also to fellow Year 13 student, Imogen Morlidge who as well as being a gifted captain of the NSB Girls Rugby Team has also recently earned national recognition by being selected for the England Rugby U18 Girls Player Development Group - Midlands Region after impressing the national selectors throughout an extensive trial process. We are hugely excited by the potential in our Girls Team this year and Imogen has a good chance of lifting some silverware before the end of the season!
There has been some exceptional successes for our Cross Country runners this week in all age groups! Mr Taplin reports:
This week we took three teams to the first round of the ESAA Cross Country Cup at Princethorpe College. The top three teams in each event go through to the Regional Finals in November.
The Junior Boys won their event with a combined score of 17. Myles Marks ran his first ever cross country race and finished 2nd. Rex Nicklin was third, Jan Hemmington 5th and Charlie Matthews 7th.
In the Intermediate Boys race the team scored 22 points to finish 2nd with Alex Kampta coming home in 3rd, Freddie Love 4th, Adam Burnley 6th, Will Davey 9th and Reuben Steadman 11th.
The Senior Boys cleaned up with a perfect score of 10. Freddie Harris won, Joshua Pinney was 2nd, George Sharp 3rd and Harrison Waterson 4th.
The leading Mathematicians in the school are gearing up for the first round of the National Senior Maths Challenge which takes place next Thursday. What makes the NSB team particularly unique is that in amongst the top Y12/Y13 Mathematicians in the NSB team we also have Year 7 student Kautilya Katariya who has prodigious mathematical ability at such a young age - already holding a Grade A* at A Level in the subject!
Finally, well done to the U18 rugby team who are still unbeaten and second in the Daily Mail National rankings after a strong win against Berkhamsted School under the StoneX Stadium lights on Wednesday and to the U18 Basketball team who won their first National Conference League game convincingly against Sir Isaac Newton College. There were also good wins in the National Cup for the U15A, U14A, U14B, U12A football teams and an outstanding performance by the U16 rugby sevens team who won the County Cup Sevens!
