Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, July 11th 2025

It's been another incredibly busy week at the school, as we approach the end of Term.

Last Saturday night was a wonderful evening of celebration for our Year 13 leavers who enjoyed their Prom at the Saints ground. Director of Sixth Form, Mrs Bradley -Brophy reports:

Year 13 Prom 2025 – A Night to Remember

The Year 13 Prom on Saturday was a truly unforgettable evening and a perfect way to celebrate the end of an incredible chapter. Hosted at the Rodber Suite at the Saints, the night was filled with laughter, celebration, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Students arrived in stunning style, setting the tone for a night of glamour and joy. From the off, warm conversation flowed, the three-course meal was a hit and the Photo Booth (complete with props) was in constant use, capturing moments of friendship, fun, and farewells.

The dance floor was electric all night, with students dancing to their specially curated NSB Playlist, made up of their top 40 song choices. It was a fitting soundtrack for the final celebration of Sixth Form life.

For staff and students alike, it was a night to cherish. The Class of 2025 have left their mark and they will be truly missed. Thank you for an amazing two years. We wish you all the very best in your next adventure!

Many congratulations to Rowan Stewart (Y12) who this week has represented his country of birth, Bermuda, in the North American Rugby Championships being held in Mexico. Rowan is following in the proud footsteps of his father who represented Bermuda for 13 years.

We are immensely looking forward to our Musical, 'Oliver!' this weekend which promises to be a royal feast of music, dance and drama. A few tickets still available to purchase. Mrs Harvey-Hodges, who's day-job is being an outstanding NSB Languages teacher, has also been lighting up high profile stages in her free time! Last Saturday afternoon, NSB alumnus Billy Lockett and his band performed on the 'Made at Vale Stage' at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The timing lined up perfectly with the end of Qualifying and the "big blue tent" was soon filled with the racing crowds - those who attended would have also spotted NSB languages teacher Mrs Harvey-Hodges singing backing vocals!

Huge congratulations to everyone involved in NSB Athletics - Mr Taplin reports on a huge amount of success across the week with a big event for NSB athletes also taking place this weekend:

On Saturday the Intermediate Boys (Y9 and 10) went to Chelmsford for the ESAA Track and Field Cup National Final. This team event allows athletes to score points for their performances in two events. Our target was for as many individuals as possible to score 20 points and for the team to finish in the top 10.

The results are below and you can see we finished 10th in the country - job done!

The main scorers were:

Mikey Graham who was the top individual points scorer across all four age groups with a massive 38 points in the shot.

Harry Bradley-Brophy scored 46 points across High Jump and Hurdles.

Ben Peet scored 44 points

Alfie Goodman (the only Y9 in the team) scored 42 points.

In total 15 scored 20 points or over - job done!

A mention to Josh Bradbrook who has his second ever attempt at hurdles in a national final and still scored 16 points!! Huge thanks to Jordan Hammond for getting him in shape for this.

Thanks also to Jordan Hammond, Johnny Hewitt and Jamie Wilcock for giving up their Saturday to ensure the team was in such great shape.

Yesterday Ethan Kontah finished 3rd at the Y7 County championships in the Long Jump. Thanks to Phil Beaumont for leading that team.

On Friday and Saturday the following students will be representing Northamptonshire at The ESAA Track and Field Championships, held at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. This is the pinnacle of their season so please wish them well.

Mikey Graham - Shot (ranked 4th in UK competing against Y11s)

Joshua Pinney - 1500m Steeplechase (also competing against Y11s)

Ona Ndefo - 100m Hurdles

Freddie Harris 800m (although he also met the entry criteria for 400m).

A huge thanks to all staff mentioned above as well as Gary Burton and Andy Graham for their work in a short and intense season.

Finally, the Staff Cricket Team have been in action this week. Captain Bradbury (PE) reports:

Thursday night saw the staff cricket team take on Old Alcovians. The staff team started very well in the field and put on a superb display of fielding to keep the hosts at 122 after they were all out in 18 overs. Mentionable notes for Jack Bradbury who only went for 4 runs with 2 wickets in his 2 overs and Phil Beaumont who took numerous catches and his acrobatic fielding greatly slowed the climbing run rate.

We moved to our turn with the bat and we loaded the order to ensure we had experienced cricketers combining early. However, Melling and Hepher fell for only 1 early on and both Baker and Nailer got a golden duck leaving the rest of the team needing to adopt a shoulders back attitude in order to chase the target.

Some superb displays by Beaumont, Hewitt and the reliable Marshall had us clinging on to hope but we fell short by 11 runs come the final ball.

We face Northampton Saints Staff next week where hopefully there will not be the same amount of ducks of the NSB golden variety quacking!

Enjoy your weekend, albeit a very hot one.
