It's been a full on week of events at NSB including two of the biggest highlights of the NSB calendar - Expressive Arts Awards Evening and Sports Day.
The Awards Evening brilliantly showcased the incredible achievements of our students across the arts and music, providing an excellent mix of performance and reflective commentary on the year. A huge well done to all students who achieved an award with the overall top prize of the night going to Year 13 student, Kanthika Bandara for his 'Outstanding Contribution to the Performing Arts'. The evening also provided an opportunity to say the first of several public thanks to Director of Music, Mr Druker who is leaving NSB at the end of this year after ten outstanding years of raising extracurricular music levels to exceptional heights and Mr Bradbury who is staying in the NSB Trust to lead Art at NS, after providing countless years of unbridled service and outstanding enthusiasm and passion for everything NSB!
Sports Day was a fantastic success with all students competing fiercely in a wide range of disciplines with the aim of accumulating points for their House. Several longstanding records were broken and a wonderful supportive atmosphere pervaded throughout the entire day. Overall positions in each year group were very close, with Chipsey House successfully defending their title from last year!
The school were pleased to welcome local MP for Northampton South, Mike Reader, to the school on Thursday for a visit which was a direct follow up to our recent successful CIF (Conditions Improvement Funding Bid) where NSB secured a sizable grant to replace the 1911 Hall roof and fire doors. Following a tour of the school, where the MP engaged warmly with the various classes visited, he then led a debate with the Year 12 Politics students which was both informative and insightful.
The McCarthy -Dixon Foundation is a vital charity in Northampton which seeks to alleviate hunger and provide for those in need in Northamptonshire. Ms Morrison took some of our Key Stage 5 students to visit some of the people that the charity provides for alongside the associated volunteers and it was a joyful experience for all involved. The report of the visit from the McCarthy -Dixon Newsletter can be seen below with another visit already planned in the diary where NSB will host:
We were delighted to welcome students from Northampton School for Boys as part of our ongoing Intergenerational Stories Programme.
The students spent time interviewing our wonderful clients and volunteers, uncovering personal histories, treasured memories, and timeless wisdom. The conversations sparked genuine connections, full of laughter, curiosity, and truly heartfelt moments.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part, these exchanges are a powerful reminder of the magic that happens when generations come together to share their stories.
A mass of NSB Y9 students recently undertook their Bronze assessed weekend. Mrs Rutherford reports:.
I am delighted to share how proud we are of all the 59 students who took part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh assessed weekend. Their resilience, teamwork, and positive attitude throughout the expedition were truly commendable.
Every student represented the school exceptionally well – they were not only determined and hardworking, but also consistently polite and respectful. The BXM expedition staff were particularly impressed and commented on the outstanding behaviour and manners of our students.
Well done to everyone involved – you were a credit to the school!

A huge well done to former student Cameron McKenzie who qualified this week with his Club crew members to row at Henley Royal Regatta, as one of the top 24 crews from around the world. There were further links to NSB in Cameron's crew with staff member Mrs Howard's son Ben also rowing in the same boat alongside Tom Bryan, whose brother Will attends the school alongside Cameron's brother Fraser!
Finally, a reminder that we have our School Musical next week - 'Oliver' playing on Friday and Saturday!
