It's been a sensational week of sport for NSB students crowned by double glory on Wednesday at the National Cup Football finals (held at WBA's stadium) when the NSB U14A and U13B teams triumphed against strong opposition from Meole Brace School, Shrewsbury and Cardinal Newman School, Brighton respectively. The U14s dominated their game with great skill and tempo throughout their 3-0 victory and the U13s showed deep resilience and desire to overcome their spirited South Coast opponents, pulling away at 2-2 to a comfortable 5-2 win.
There was a lovely mention of NSB rugby from the Head of the Northampton Saints Academy, Mark Hopley, 8 minutes 55 seconds into the BBC documentary: Northampton Saints: Behind the scenes at Premiership club's academy - BBC Sport
We do have very good state schools too. Northampton School for Boys this year have more England Under-18 players in their squad than any other school. We are lucky to have them as a key partner."
Continuing on the sporting front, congratulations to Joseph Underwood for winning an English 'Silver' Squash event and we wish him luck when he represents the North against the South of England this Saturday at Warick University. Well done also to Jonah Canham in Year 8 who is now a national champion after scoring and providing a game winning assist for Rushden & Diamonds in the National JPL (Junior Premier League) Final last weekend.
We are delighted to announce that our NSB KS4 Elite group has been selected to represent the East Midlands at the National Youth Dance Festival Finals (U.DANCE) following two hugely competitive rounds of gruelling county and regional auditions with only two groups selected from the East Midlands from hundreds of entries. The U.Dance website outlines the details of the national event, including ticketing information and lists all the groups who have been selected for the final.
Last month, I mentioned that Year 9 student Logan Sothcott was undertaking a series of herculean tasks to raise money for ten year old Ezra - the son of Logan's school rugby coach - to support Ezra's cancer treatment. Logan's latest fundraising venture is to complete a 60 mile run challenge over four days and he was cheered off on his quest yesterday by his year group peers from outside NSB's front gates
A reminder to the parents / carers of Year 12 students that we have our annual Future Apprentice evening on June 3rd, which complements our Year 12 University and Oxbridge evenings. Mrs Howard, who has been instrumental in raising student awareness of this increasingly popular post 18 route, reports:
All Year 12 Parents/ Carers and students are welcome to attend this richly informative evening and will have received an email with an invite to the evening including a registration link. The finishing touches are being made to the Future Apprentice Evening booklet which will be shared with parents / carers shortly alongside the full schedule for the evening which will include presentations in the Theatre, an Employer Panel, an Apprentice Panel (of former NSB students) and Employer stands. For further details, please email careers@nsb.northants.sch.uk
Issue 3 of the termly reading newsletter, "Beyond the Pages" can now be found on the NSB website here: Northampton School for Boys - Reading
This edition focuses on strategies for sharing reading at home and the recent author visit hosted at NSB.
I hope all students have an enjoyable break next week and we look forward to their safe return on Monday, June 2nd.
