Headmaster's Bulletin 30th June 2017
It has been a revolving door of student success through my office this week as I have met several students who have achieved at an outstanding level across a wide field of interests. First in, was Y12 student, Tom Hughes who has been selected by the FA, to be one of the English referees at the International Youth Football Tournament Cup being held in Portugal this summer.
Tom is a highly regarded referee within the county and this is an opportunity to deservedly take his talent to the next level. Next through the door, was Y9 student Edward Jennings who has built on the already impressive accolade of being the current Northamptonshire U14 Hockey Captain, by virtue of selection for the England Hockey Midlands section next season. Rumour has it that such are Edward's skills as a marauding wing back that he could well be challenging for national colours in the near future. Last, but by no means least, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ben Wilcock's (Y8),winning entry to the NSB's mystery thriller competition, organised by Miss Fitzpatrick, which took me to the edge of my seat, with the central character being a Headmaster which, of course, piqued my interest from the off. Ben's wordsmith skills shone throughout the script and I look forward to the next instalment as the ending was left suitably full of suspense!
The musicians, yet again, excelled during the second musical concert of the summer 'Here comes the Sun' on Wednesday in front of a large audience, with the entertainment highlight, undoubtedly, being the Bulgarian Folk Dance around the handkerchiefs, just before the interval, which did not quite match the instrumental expertise!
Thursday night marked a popular annual charity event at the school, run by Mr Grisley, where 29 current and ex NSB students who play/ have played for a local Sunday football team, Dynamo, got together to support the charity 'Always a Chance' which was set up in memory of ex NSB student James Kouzaris who was unfortunately murdered alongside his friend, James Cooper, in Florida in April 2011. The event saw the Young beat the Old players 7-6 and just over £200 was raised for the charity which aims to provide funding for projects that encourage young people who are outside of full-time education and employment to re-engage with work or study.
After a productive day of teacher training today we look forward to welcoming the students back on Monday.
