NSB Students Celebrate Outstanding A Level and BTEC Results

Post 16 students at Northampton School for Boys have received an excellent set of results, maintaining the five-year trend at the school of strong achievement at A Level / BTEC.

Richard Bernard, Headteacher of NSB, said:

‘The 2026 Post 16 results pay testament to the excellent work ethic and ability of this cohort of students and to the incredible hard work of the staff and governors. These impressive results ensure that our outgoing students have a strong academic foundation for university / employment going forward.’

The attainment highlights include, well over a third of all entries achieving an A*/A Grade and over 70% of all entries gaining an A*-B. For the fifth year running, the average grade for each of the 848 A Level entries sat by NSB students is comfortably above the B grade threshold. In the BTEC Sport qualification, all students secured a minimum of 3 Distinctions (equivalent to 3 Grade As) and five students secured the highest result possible - D*D*D* (equivalent to 3 A*s). Year 12 Maths A Level and EPQ Grades were also outstanding.

8 students achieved a minimum of 3 A* Grades at A Level with 2 students securing 4 straight A* Grades. Almost a third of the whole A Level cohort - 86 students - achieved an A Level Grade average of AAB.

Richard Goswell, Deputy Director of Sixth Form, said:

“We are incredibly proud of the success of our students and their next steps. Over 250 NSB students have received university offers, with more than half securing places at Russell Group universities and music conservatoires. Many have also gained places on highly competitive courses, including Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine and other demanding degree programmes.

What is particularly pleasing is the breadth of destinations and courses our students have secured. Their success reflects not only their academic ability, but the tremendous commitment and perseverance they have shown throughout the application process. We are equally proud of those embarking on highly prestigious degree apprenticeships. These achievements demonstrate not only our students’ academic strengths, but also their readiness to take their next steps into the wider world.

We are delighted to see so many students progressing to Post 18 destinations that match their ambitions and interests, and we wish them every success as they take this exciting next step.”

None of this success would be possible without the extraordinary dedication, care and expertise of our NSB teaching and support staff. Their unwavering commitment, both academically and pastorally, ensures that every student receives the guidance and encouragement they need to follow the pathway that is right for them.
