Charity Week 2025
What a phenomenal week!
The NSB community rose to the occasion with so much thought and even more energy, making this year's Charity Week the most successful yet! The money raised is so important but It's not only about the money - it's about the spirit of charity and raising awareness for our chosen charities, encouraging empathy and compassion for others and young people coming together to make an impact with the support of staff, parents and carers. And they really showed the NSB ethos and spirit!
Our Charities this year have been chosen from suggestions given to us from the students and staff of NSB who want to support causes that are close to their hearts, where often they have witnessed the amazing work these charities undertake or where they have seen the devastation in other countries on TV and Social Media and want to do their bit to help.
Our Charities:

Mbekweni School in South Africa
Unicef: Jamaica Appeal
War Child
Médecins Sans Frontieres UK (Doctors Without Borders)

Some highlights from the week include The Killer Whale Challenge - the BTEC crew and staff rowing for 12 hours overnight, the equivalent length of 100,000 Killer Whales! So far they have raised £1771- well done to them!
If you want to know more (and see a photo of Mr Bradbury's new pink hair) or would like to make a donation, the link is below:
We have raised £4000 from XX Factor with some class acts and lots of fun, hosted by Miss Bason with guest student comperes and fabulous judging panels across the week and the staff band even made an appearance. Over £1000 came in from the staff panto and more money from I'm A House Leader Get me Out of Here and the House Taskmaster competition. We have had netball matches, non-uniform day, the raffle, Festive/Winter jumper day, Brightwell, Chipsey, Manley, Washington and 6th Form Days...all the Form events and challenges...and so much more! And we have sorted and bagged over 2,000 Tins, Toys and Toiletries and delivered them to The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation, Eve and The Hope Centre ensuring a brighter Christmas for so many.
Shout outs to:
Charlie Auburn in 7Q. He raised £115 for the form challenge - a run/bike/swim the Nene
Jenson Avill (7J), handed in £110 that he personally raised for their sponsored run
9I 'swam the channel' and they also made £50 in 4 minutes selling donuts
8S have raised over £200 for their sponsored event - they ran/rowed/cycled (and one stair master!) an ultramarathon - to improve on their marathon from last year.
7K's cake sale and sponsored event (basket ball hoop shoot) managed to raise £284
9Q raised £58 from a "Build-your-own baguette" station and did a joint-effort triathlon
8K raised £140 with their drinks and cake sale and 9K's Tombola raised £210
13L have raised £86.80 by dressing up as things starting with L!
But that is just the tip of the iceberg - these are just the ones I know about - every Form was doing their bit and it is so appreciated!
Thank you to students, staff, parents/carers for your generosity - to anyone and everybody who took part in whatever way; every pound paid, cake made, every song sung, challenge smashed, raffle ticket bought, item donated - whatever it was, it will make such a difference locally, and further afield.
And now for the latest on the total - we are still counting but is has now reached an eye watering £13, 500 - an amazing achievement in such a short amount go time - well done everyone - you will literally have changed lives.
Have a lovely break
