Renowned Historian Returns to NSB

NSB was honoured to welcome Professor Robert Service, one of the world’s leading historians of the Soviet Union and a former NSB student, for a special visit this week. Professor Service, who has worked alongside senior state officials and lectured at Stanford, Oxford and UCL, took great pleasure in sharing his knowledge about the USSR, and his own history at NSB.
A-Level History students had the opportunity to meet Professor Service. Year 12s enjoyed an insightful lecture on the final years of Lenin’s leadership, deepening their understanding of a key component of their A-Level course. Year 13 students then had the rare chance to question an expert directly about the collapse of the USSR, gaining clarity and perspective that will support their upcoming examinations. His stories about school life decades ago captivated both students and staff, adding a warm and personal touch to the day.

Students engaged brilliantly throughout, and Professor Service spoke highly of their curiosity and welcome. His visit was a privilege for the school and an exceptional experience for our young historians.
