Northampton School for Boys

Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, May 15th 2026

With the level of success that the school enjoys in sport, it's all about the incremental fitness gains which can give NSB  teams the required edge to compete at the very top of the national sporting stage. On Tuesday some of our leading Year 9 and 10 sportsmen were given the opportunity to immerse themselves over the course of the day in the world of sports nutrition. Mr Hounslow who organised the day has given this report:

This week selected students at NSB participated in a Sports Nutrition Workshop focussing on hydration and healthy fuels for sporting activities. The students were selected due to their excellence in GCSE Food preparation and Sporting success at NSB. The workshop included theoretical and practical activities with a qualified Sports Nutritionist. The students prepared Isotonic, Hypotonic and Hypertonic drinks aimed at hydration before, during and after physical activity. The students also made recovery, endurance and all-rounder energy balls with a focus on maximising the six opportunities to fuel throughout the day. The workshop was a fantastic opportunity to combine aspects of GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition alongside GCSE PE and Biology. It provided a unique chance for the boys to work with an industry expert and to consider specific career pathways.

The school has a proud track record of successful applications to Oxbridge and on Tuesday the Cripps Theatre was packed with Year 12 students from schools across the county who were eager to hear from Admissions Tutors from both Oxford and Cambridge. Miss Sneddon has sent in this report:

On Tuesday, we were delighted to host the annual NSB Oxbridge Evening. The event was exceptionally well attended by members of our current Year 12 cohort, alongside students from several local schools, all eager to gain a deeper understanding of the Oxbridge application process, admissions assessments, and student life at both universities.

We were particularly pleased to welcome admissions representatives from Pembroke College, Cambridge and Lincoln College, Oxford, who provided a comprehensive overview of the similarities and distinctions between the two institutions.

The evening proved highly informative and inspiring and has further strengthened the aspirations of many of our students to pursue applications to Oxbridge.

Mrs Howard has been instrumental in putting together a thriving Apprenticeship Academy at the school which has led to some incredible offers for our Year 13 leavers. She reports:

This year we've seen some fantastic apprenticeship offers for our Year 13s – congratulations to them all as they've worked very hard to secure their offers whilst balancing their studies.  Two have received a sensational hat trick of offers - James Redwood (Engineering: Cummins, TFL and Weetabix) and Harrison Rosier (Engineering: JLR, BAE & MBDA).  Other Engineering offers include Thomas Agutter, Nuclear Submarine Engineering with Rolls Royce and Liam Greenough for Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing with Babcock.

After Ayyub Ali securing the first solicitor apprenticeship for NSB last year with Howden's, Amelia Millam has secured a solicitor apprenticeship with Slaughter & May this year.  And another first for NSBs year 13s, Sarah Matei has been offered a Police Detective Apprenticeship with Leicestershire Police pending DBS checks.  Tom Hardwick and Bryne Arthur both have offers for audit with KPMG, with Bryne also is holding an offer for a Technology & Development apprenticeship with Astra Zeneca.  In additional to applying for apprenticeships, Callum Tarry applied for and secured a PwC's Flying start sponsored Degree at University.   We still have year 13s attending assessment centres so we wish them all the very best.   Huge congratulations to you all - very well deserved

Any Year 11s, 12s or 13s who would like support with applying for apprenticeships should contact Mrs Howard - jhoward@nsbtrust.school

Finally, a huge well done to Ben Jones Year 12 who has been called up to the latest England U17 Rugby Development Camp which is a great step towards international caps next year at U18 level.
