Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, November 28th 2025

It's been a week full of student success, particularly across the various Expressive Arts disciplines.
Last weekend our Big Band performed brilliantly in the National Concert Band Regional Finals coming away with the highest award - Platinum which propels them into the National Final in April.
On Monday, some of our top KS4 and KS5 artists enjoyed a series of professional workshops. Miss Clark reports:
On Monday this week, students in Year 10 and 12 had an exciting opportunity to work alongside a professional graffiti artist, in collaboration with the Royal & Derngate Theatre. The workshop was related to the upcoming play 'Top G's Like Me', which explores the theme of toxic masculinity.
Students participated in discussions about positive masculinity and used their ideas to shape their graffiti works. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience of spray-painting onto canvases and the way in which they utilised colours, concepts and imagery was fantastic to see. The workshop not only enabled our students to develop their artistic skills, but also encouraged them to engage with important societal concerns in a creative, collaborative and purposeful way.
Then earlier today, we welcomed to the school, Peter Gommon - son of former NSB Art teacher and highly successful professional artist David Gommon. After visiting the Art department and taking in an exhibition of student work, Peter kindly donated a Monograph of David's work to the school which is now proudly displayed in the 1911 Hall.

Thank you to Michal Wojcik and Kyla Mpofu, students at NSB, who are part of the West Northants Youth Council who helped arrange and promote the recent West Northants' Cake and Debate as part of UK Parliament Week and also to Miss Bason who took a group of students to have their say on the issues impacting young people today. They were joined by NSB student Jakub Wojcik and Morcea Walker MBE who, as well as being a link Governor for NSB, has always worked tirelessly for the local community and has been at the forefront of youth provision in ensuring that young people have a voice in Northamptonshire over many years. Miss Bason reports:
On the evening of Monday 24th November, members of the NSB Debate Club; Taylor Morgan, Jason Stone, James Howard and Joseph Lackie travelled to the Guildhall in Northampton to take part in Cake and Debate, an event held in partnership with the Youth Parliament Council and local MPs. Students discussed a wide range of local and national issues, exploring what positive changes could be made to improve both our community and the wider country.
The NSB students were fantastic representatives for the school, debating every topic with maturity, thought, and consideration. A special mention goes to James Howard, who confidently stood and addressed the entire Council to share his concerns about education.
Thank you to all those who attended and helped represent NSB and our local community so brilliantly.
Many congratulations to Y12 student, Alice Berrill who is currently representing the
U20s GB Woman's GB British Hawks squad for Water Polo in the Czech Republic, with the squad competing for the Junior EU nations Cup. There was further success in the pool for our U15 this week who stormed through the first round of the National Cup with comprehensive wins over King Edwards School and Bedford Modern School.
There were some big wins this week in respective National Cups for the U16 rugby team, the U18A and B football teams, the U17 basketball Team and for the U18 basketball Team in the National College Basketball League. There are three huge National Cup games today, with the U15A rugby team taking on Samuel Whitbread at home in a last 16 tie - 3.45pm kick off, the U14A football team taking on Lutterworth College in Rd 3 and the U16 basketball team playing NIA in a repeat of last year's National Cup Semi-Final. These contests are a great appetiser for the First XV' s huge home game in the National Cup Quarter Final next Tuesday against Kirkham Grammar School from Preston - kick off 2.15pm on the First XV pitch - spectator entry through the Access Road Gate from 2pm.
Many congratulations to former student James Hunter-Brown who has received an extremely high accolade by being part of an invitational select group of just 31 youth ambassadors within the Duke of Edinburgh Award Framework. The story has been picked up by the Chronicle & Echo as set out below:
