Northampton School for Boys

Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, October 17th 2025

There has been a raft of brilliant student success to celebrate this week, not least for the school overall, who for the second year running are top of the Department for Education rankings for all key GCSE Performance Indicators (State Schools - 2025) in West Northamptonshire  - the tables were released nationally yesterday

There have been two huge school events this week. Yesterday evening saw a packed Cripps Theatre audience enjoy  a wonderfully entertaining first NSB Music concert of the year - 'Hollywood Harmonies' with resplendent costumes and brilliant musicianship throughout. Special mention for Y13 students Erin Searing and Stanley Rees who juggled presenting and performing duties expertly, keeping the audience richly entertained on both fronts!

The Theatre was also packed on Tuesday Evening for the NSB Post 16 Information Evening. Mrs Rickaby-Collins reports:

Tuesday saw the inaugural Post 16 Information Evening for Y11 and with a packed Cripps Theatre, the event was an enormous success. Y11 students and their families learnt about their various Post 16 pathway options, as well as a focused insight into life in NSB Sixth Form. Students had the opportunity to talk to other local education providers, including Northampton and Moulton Colleges, Bedford College Group and Starting Off (Apprenticeships).

Students and their families had overwhelmingly positive things to say about the evening as they left and all acknowledged they were leaving with their knowledge further expanded than it had been at the start of the evening! Mrs Howard's very clever mentimeter quiz gave the evening an interactive twist with parents/carers' knowledge being put to the test!

Y11 students and parents/carers have received a copy of the presentation from Tuesday, and the Careers Hub booklet has a list of all local providers loaded to students' Unifrog lockers.

Y11 will continue to receive their 1:1 careers guidance throughout Term 2 and we look forward to hearing about their various Post 16 applications over the coming term.

Huge thanks to our wonderful Careers Team for putting together such a rich experience for  parents and students alike!

Tickets are available for the NSB Visual Arts Exhibition on 4th November. It is a free to attend event, but tickets are required. Please click the link below.

NSB Sporting success has been off the charts this week with the Sixth Form enjoying a particularly great Thursday! Our Netball Team has enjoyed a consistent winning record and silverware over recent years but yesterday saw a step up in challenge as they travelled to Oundle to compete in the County Cup - the top tier of competition in U18 Schools Netball in Northamptonshire. Firm favourites were perennial winners Oundle School, but their 2025 title aspirations came unstuck against a powerful NSB squad as Team Coach, Mrs Harvey -Hodges reports:

On Thursday, Mrs Harvey-Hodges and the 1st VII Netball team travelled to Oundle School for the County Cup competition. Supported by an incredible defence and centre-court, the combination of Matilda Hinde, Daisy Hinde and Emily Gates in the goal third proved to be an unstoppable force! NSB won all five of their matches, including a nail-biting game against the hosts, continuing their undefeated streak. Many thanks also to Miss Pheasant (NTTP) who umpired on behalf of NSB.

This is a huge step for Netball at NSB and the team will now progress to the Regional Final, representing Northamptonshire in February!

Not to be outdone by the Netballers, the First XV took on Rugby School under lights on Thursday evening with top position in the Daily Mail U18 National League rankings in the balance. The NSB boys put on a pulsating performance of attacking flair and intent, running out comprehensive 66-10 winners. The result cements NSB's position at the top of the prestigious league with 5 games to go. The team also have two other major irons very much still in the fire - a Regional Semi-Final of the National Cup v Bromsgrove on November 11th at home and The Schools Championship title within reach - next game in this elite  competition  v Whitgift at home on Saturday, November 22nd.

On the sporting theme, congratulations to Y11 student Luca McCourtie for being awarded Student of the Week at Birmingham City Football Academy and to Joseph Underwood who is making some serious waves in the Squash World - winning the U15 East Midlands Competition and also being shortlisted for the England Squash awards 2025 as the male rising star, with the winner announced in late November. There has also been impressive East Midlands call ups in Water Polo  for the following U14s from the NSB Trust. The selected boys will compete against other Regional sides on 15/16 November at Walsall Baths, Birmingham.

The school, alongside the rest of the nation, will soon be in Remembrance of all those who have given their lives in War. The 2025 NSB Remembrance badges are available from ParentPay and Reception at £3 per badge with all money donated to the Royal British Legion.
