Pupil Premium is a relatively recent funding model to support highlighted pupils who are perceived to potentially require additional support to maximise their potential. Our school receive grants to support pupils who are Looked After (or previously looked after), are in receivership of Free School Meals and who are Children of Service Families.
The grant is non-specific and is not ring-fenced. The grant is able to be spent at the schools discretion with the aim being to improve results for pupils subject to Pupil Premium and Narrow the Gap between Pupil Premium pupils and their non PP peers.
In 2009-10 national GCSE data highlighted that almost one third of pupils who had been on Free School Meals in the previous six years achieved five or more A* - C grades, when compared to more than two thirds of those who had never been eligible.
