Headmaster's Bulletin 13th January 2023

Congratulations to Year 11 and 13 for completing their Trial examinations this week. The results will be analysed closely from an intervention perspective, but the overall general attitude of the students throughout has been first rate, which bodes well for the summer. Many thanks to Mrs Topping Shaw and her vast team of supporting staff / invigilators for running such a smooth operation with over 3,000 papers sat.

The Year 7 footballers enjoyed a trip to the seaside on Monday, travelling down the M5 to Devon to take on Torquay Academy in the Quarter Finals of the Elite U12 National Cup - the NSB boys put on a bracing attacking performance, backed up by a rock-solid defence to win comprehensively - 5-0. The Semi-Final will be held in February / March against either Trinity School or Riddlesdown Collegiate – who both hail from Croydon.

Our NSB musicians have been practising hard in preparation for the National Concert Band East Midlands Regional Festival which is being held at NSB on Sunday. The very best of luck to the NSB Big Band, NSB Symphonic Winds and to our many students in the County Youth Big Band and Concert Band.

Finally, it has been a delight to welcome so many Year 6 students onto the NSB site this week for the new NSB Free School Admission Aptitude Tests. We are delighted with the number of applicants to date (closing date January 22nd) and are very excited by the prospect of welcoming the first ever year group to the school in September. You may well hear some adverts for the new school on Heart Radio over the next few weeks and an interview with the Headteacher Designate for the school, Mr Edwards, will be broadcast on BBC Radio Northampton during the Breakfast show on Monday, January 16th with Annabel Amos.

Well done also to the U18 Basketball team who edged a tight game in overtime to beat Moulton College on Wednesday. The team now move into tied second place in the National College Basketball League which will be good enough for a play-off position if they can retain their form for the remaining games.
