Northampton School for Boys

Headmaster's Bulletin 7th September 2018

Fresh on the heels of the exceptionally good GCSE and A Level results this summer we have enjoyed a rather remarkable start to the academic year with the school's involvement on Wednesday in a major event at The Royal Albert Hall.

The schedule for the day was drawn together by The Prince's Teaching Institute and the Children & The Arts Foundation and centred on debate and discussion over raising the profile of the Expressive Arts subjects in schools.

The attendees included His Royal Highness Prince Charles, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, the Director-General of the BBC, Government Ministers, national leaders of the UK's greatest Arts institutions along with famous performers such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Sir Lenny Henry and Myleene Klass.

It was an honour to be involved in strategic discussion with such an esteemed group and I was hugely proud of Year 11 NSB student, Jacob Benhayoun for his powerful and inspirational address and of our Year 11 Dance team who literally raised the iconic roof with the ovation given for the piece that they performed at the reception. I was also delighted that local MP Michael Ellis, was present to watch our boys perform as he has been an unwavering supporter of the Arts in Northampton Schools and indeed, in his role as Minister for the Arts, across the country.

In school, it has been a pleasure to welcome the students back after the holidays and an excellent start has been made by all year groups as we seek to emulate the outstanding student successes of last year.
