Headmaster's Bulletin 8th June 2018

Although we have been back only a week some of our students have already been hitting the local and national headlines for their achievements.

The BAFTA award ceremonies attract international coverage and I am delighted to announce that two of our Year 12 students are in the short list of nominations for a BAFTA this year! Joe Anderson and Michael Bell will attend a London award ceremony in July as finalists in the Young Game Designers Awards category for 15-18 year olds. Their game 'Mousetrapped' has been a huge hit in school and having tried it myself I can testify to the designers' ingenuity as the levels get progressively more fiendish in difficulty! On Sunday 24th June we are hosting the Duke of Cambridge Water Polo Cup which is essentially a selection event for the English Schools' team in preparation for matches against Australian Schools in December. We are delighted that Year 11 student, James Bushell, has been selected for this competition which firmly cements his place as one of the top schoolboys in the country in his position as Goalkeeper. Water Polo has gone from strength to strength over the past few years at the school and this is a tremendous accolade for James and for the school Coach Jon Lane, particularly given that James had not played Water Polo before he started at NSB.

Finally congratulations go to Joe Batten in Year 11 who has achieved the highly respected 'Level 1a' status as a Cricket Umpire. Joe was one of the youngest ever ECB umpires at the age of 13 and this new qualification permits him to umpire the highest level Division 1 adult club matches in the county. We look forward to seeing Joe on the test match circuit in the years to come!
