On-line Grooming - Keeping Young People Safe
Last year the police came into school and they presented Kayleigh's Love Story, the true story of a young girl who was groomed and then raped and killed. Whilst the boys understood the dangers and found it concerning, many of them did not relate to the events. So last year we completed work in relation to Breck Bednar who was groomed by an 18 year old during online gaming. We now have the opportunity to consolidate on the work previously and again look at the story of Breck; looking at the contributing factors, how someone can spot the signs and avoid being groomed or how they can help others to do so. It follows a structured lesson plan where issues can be discussed in a safe environment and where the boys can learn to question the world around them
Please take the time to go through the presentation (link below: Breck's Last Game - Parent Presentation) as this gives information about what we are doing but also about how you can help. Please let us know if you think there will be an issue in looking at this subject matter or if you do not want them to take part in this activity.
