Christopher Locke gets England U18 callup
Chris Locke becomes the 10th NSB pupil to play for his Country at rugby since 2000. He joins such illustrious company as Steve Thompson, Ian Vass and Paul Diggin currently with the Saints First Team Squad.
Chris who enjoyed his early rugby at the Old Scouts Club and latterly at the Old Northamptonians has been selected in a twenty six man squad as hooker for the England Schools U18 AER side.
"He has captained the NSB 1st XV this season and has led from the front in another successful season" said Mark Lee at the school.
Chris now has the opportunity to play in the under 18 European Championships in Biarritz in April where he will come up against the full Six Nations complement of International Teams.
On the 4th March he is in the squad to play Wales at Bristol followed by Italy on the 18th and Scotland on 25th before flying off for the European Tournament
"Chris has brought more focus and preparation to his game this year and his International call up is a just reward for the work he has put in. We wish him all the best "added Mr Lee.
Another former NSB pupil has been selected for International honours in rugby. Courtney Lawes has been picked for the England Under 18 Conference Six Nations team to play Wales at Cleve Rugby Club on Sunday 25th February.
Courtney has also recently signed a full time contract with Saints Academy where he starts in July. The school now has five current members of the Saints set up, proving that there is a pathway for local talent.
"I am extremely excited to be given the chance to represent my country at U18 level. It is an opportunity to showcase my skills and to try and gain a professional contract in my dream career.
It will be a dream come true when I step onto the field for the first time wearing an England shirt.
I couldn't have achieved what I have so far without the huge support from my rugby coaches at school and externally and also owe my success to the support of my family who have taken me around the country and been with me 100%.
I look forward to having some input and potentially helping the squad to gain a third consecutive European cup title".
