Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, January 19th 2024

We received the wonderful news on Monday that NSB has been officially ranked as the Number 1 State School for competitive sport in Britain. The ranking list is compiled annually by the national media publication, School Sport Magazine, and takes into account the results of all British School Sport competitions across the past academic year. This is the fourth time in ten years that we have achieved this phenomenal accolade and it is testament to the wonderful work and support of students / staff / parents and community coaches / helpers. Please see an associated article from the Magazine below:

Huge congratulations to the Senior Mock Bar Team and to their staff leaders Miss Rickaby and Miss Harvey. As mentioned in the Bulletin last week, twenty of our Sixth Formers (plus Edward Rushmore from Y11) from the NSB Law Society headed to Birmingham Crown Court on Saturday for the Regional Finals of the Senior Mock Bar Competition. The students had been incredibly diligent in their preparation as Counsel to the Defence / Prosecution for a variety of cases and I am delighted to report that the presiding (actual) Judge made the NSB team the winners of the competition. As a result, we will be heading off to the Royal Courts of Justice, London,  in March for the National Final.

Our Big Band and Folk Group - Bodhran Bodhran are in the full throttle of rehearsals in preparation for a hugely exciting event next Sunday - the New Year Spectacular Jazz @ The Cripps on Sunday, January 28th at 7pm. The evening will feature the mighty BBC Big Band and world famous vocalist, Claire Martin, Tickets are available from the NSB Box Office.

Our defence of the No 1 UK Sports Ranking, is currently looking in good shape, with an excellent win this week for the U13 Elite football team who are now in the National Cup Semi Finals after beating Ravens Wood School away in Bromley by 7 goals to 2, as well as, outstanding victories for the U16 and U18 Basketball teams, the latter of which was the culmination of a long, long away trip to the Newcastle Eagles! The Year 9 Water Polo Team also excelled with a clean sweep of victories in the London League. Many congratulations to one of the key players in this  Year 9 squad - Ethan Buckley who on the back of being identified as one of the top players in his age group by the East Midlands talent centre, has been selected to represent the Midlands at the Duke of Cambridge Cup, which is one of the most prestigious titles in Junior Water Polo in the country. 30 NSB athletes are representing Northampton at the County Championships in Corby on Saturday. This includes 3 Town Champions and all of those that ran in the National Cup Final before Christmas. Best of luck to all the NSB Girls and Boys running in this event, with the carrot of Regional Finals to be followed by National Finals for the highest placed runners.
