Northampton School for Boys

Headmaster's Bulletin 19th May 2017

The school is currently in full exam mode as the GCSE and A level papers began in earnest on Monday.

Time was still found early in the week, however, to focus on another NSB sports team having a tilt at a national title with the Y7 footballers taking on Thomas Telford School in the Schools' Cup Final. NSB dominated early proceedings and were unfortunate to fall a goal behind against the run of play, however Rico Duggan then equalised with a superb individual effort which led to parity at half-time. NSB then pressured again early in the second half but were caught out by a breakaway goal and unfortunately we were not able to claw the deficit back. An outstanding season nevertheless for this team who have many years of national cups to look forward to.

After our Y13 students leave us they have, understandably, all manner of plans in regard to their next steps before embarking on a university course or employment. The school's annual Martin Travel Awards provide a bursary to support students who are embarking on journeys and adventures of educational significance after they leave NSB and this year's recipients have not disappointed in regard to the breadth and richness of their trips. Finally, I would like to offer the school's congratulations  to Mrs Hennah who received notification this week that her research project into ‘Using digital badges for developing Year 12 Chemistry laboratory skills' is not only being published by the 'Journal of Chemical Education' but has also been published as 'Editor's Choice', which in effect makes it the number one educational article of 2017 for the American Chemical Society - an outstanding accolade for both Mrs Hennah and also excellent publicity for the school who feature heavily in the article.
