Centre Assessment Grades – Information statement 18/08/2020

Dear Parents / Carers,

I am writing to highlight the Government announcement yesterday that this year’s GCSE and A Level students are to receive the higher of their Centre Assessment Grade or their Examination Board Calculated Grade to count as their final GCSE or A Level result. The Centre Assessment Grade is the grade that the school submitted to the Examination Board as the one that the school believed to be the most likely to be achieved by the student if they had sat their full exams as normal in the Summer. The Centre Assessment Grade took into account wide ranging evidence as detailed in the Examinations section of the school website, where you can also find relevant information regarding the process of appealing against these grades. The Examination Board Calculated Grade is the moderated grade from the Examination Board after each Board had applied the national standardisation procedures. A Level Students

Mrs Bradley-Brophy (Director of Sixth Form) wrote to all Year 13 students this morning to outline our advice in regards to University places and that advice is unchanged. The Autumn Series of examinations for students to try and improve their final summer awarded  A Level grade are still set to go ahead between October 5th and October 23rd and further information can be found in the Examinations section of the website and from the Exams Office. We will notify all students when certification for the Summer awarded grades are received by the school.

GCSE Students

Following yesterday’s sudden Government  U Turn on Centre Assessment Grades the school is in the process of updating the GCSE information in the Examinations section of the website. This update will follow clarification that we are still awaiting from the Government on several key issues. Students are reminded that their results can be accessed from AIM from 8am on Thursday morning.
