Year 7 Opening Sport Sessions and Trials 2019

Information for Year 7 Parents:
Below you will find information outlining the arrangements for the opening trials and practices system for Year 7 sport at NSB. We hit the ground running from day 1 because the opening competitive games come within the first few weeks of September in many sports. The students have been made aware of key days and times for the coming week and the information is also displayed in their form rooms. But for your information:

Thursday 5th

Basketball trials - 3.35pm – 5.15pm. Meet at the Sports Hall. Wear indoor trainers and PE kit. Coach = Mr Elder

Friday 6th

Water Polo trials - 3.35pm – 5.00pm. Meet at the swimming pool. Bring appropriate swimming kit. You do not need a hat or goggles. All of those intending to attend must be able to swim 100m unaided without stopping for this team trial session. Coach = Mr Lane

Monday 9th

Cross Country - 3.35pm – 4.45pm. Meet at the gymnasium. Bring PE kit and trainers. The session will be on grass. Please be aware that this is an open session, not a trial as such. Weekly practice times will be outlined at this opening session. Coach = Mr Taplin.

Tuesday 10th

Rugby Trials - 3.35pm – 5.00pm. Meet at the gymnasium. Wear appropriate rugby kit. You will not need a gum shield for this first session. Teacher in charge of this age group rugby = Mrs Topping-Shaw.

Wednesday 11th

Football Trials - 3.35pm – 5.00pm. Meet at the outdoor changing rooms at the sports hall, the session will be on the 3G. Wear PE kit, shin pads and appropriate footwear (no metal studs). Coach = Mr Melling

Thursday 12th

Rugby trial 2 - Information about this session will be outlined at the initial trial on Tuesday evening.

Friday 13th

Football trial 2 - Information about this session will be outlined at the initial trial on Wednesday evening.
If any student wants to attend a session but is unable to do so, they must not panic. Coaches will find a chance to see them at a later date. The player can simply come make the teacher (or myself) aware.

Additionally, other activities which are not listed above will be introduced progressively over the weeks to come - hockey, badminton, boccia, gaelic football and such. Information about these will be filtered to the students in weeks to come.

Please be aware - whilst sporting activities are based out of the sports facilities of the school site, if you intend to pick up your son after a trial or practice, this is best arranged to occur at the front of school. The sports hall car park has limited space and cannot cope if all parents drive down at 5.00pm for pick ups. If you agree with your son to pick up at the front of school, there is the quad, the crescent and two pedestrian crossings which lead to the ON's car park and the quieter residential streets opposite the school site.

Many thanks and kind regards.
