Northampton School for Boys

Headmaster's Bulletin 23rd April 2021

Despite such a tumultuous year, it is great credit to our students that the delayed Term 4 assessment results are indicative of where we would expect progress and attainment to normally be for the vast majority of our cohort and the associated Term 4 reports will be issued to all year groups, bar Year 11 and 13 next week.

Attention will now turn towards preparation for the end of year examinations and on this note, the whole of Year 11 / 13 and Year 12 Further Maths students are working incredibly hard for their forthcoming Term 5 assessments which will contribute towards the final GCSE / A Level grading process. We wish them all the very best of luck when these assessments begin next week.

NSB Music has been consistently hitting the headlines for all the right reasons, not least when highlighted for exceptional provision last week in a speech by the Schools Minister, Nick Gibb MP.

On Wednesday, of this week, our Y10 GCSE and Y12 A Level music students enjoyed an inspirational virtual talk with Roger Argente, the Head of Brass Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and former Principal Bass Trombone for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Ten or more of our music students consistently move on every year from NSB to leading music conservatoires across the UK with the Royal Welsh being one of the most popular destinations.

The support for our Sixth Form students who are interested in a career from medicine is outstanding and going from strength to strength under the leadership of Miss Graham who receives strong external support from the Chair of Governors, Peter Bason. We currently stand at 16 University offers for medicine, dentistry or veterinary science for the current Year 13 cohort and we also have an exceptional group of 35 aspiring medics in Year 12. Many of these students undertake volunteer work at the local hospital and it was a delight to read a lovely tweet this week about our medical students from the Head of the Volunteer Services at the Northampton General Hospital, Emma Wimpress (BEM).
