Headmaster's Bulletin 12th February 2021

As we approach the end of term, I am delighted that we can share and celebrate a range of outstanding student success.

Each year we encourage KS4 and 5 students to enter the Northamptonshire music composition competition. The students are given several stimuli from which they can create their piece and this year, even with pupils away from school, we managed to submit our largest number of entries. The Final was held on Tuesday evening and was judged by internationally renowned composers, Fiona Brice, Benjamin Till and Paul Mills who either grew up in Northampton or now work in the area. The evening provided fascinating insights into scoring music for TV, Film and the Stage with some wonderful student work on show.

All of the following pupils were placed in the Final:

  • KS4: Inioluwa Alao,  Gus Lopez Woodward and Matthew Kirkwood (all Y10)
  • KS5: Ileri Alao, Charlie Byfield, Caoimhe Cleary, Eva Jennings and Jonathan Robin (all Y12)
  • I’m delighted to report that Inioluwa won the KS4 prize and Charlie Byfield won the KS5 prize. Caoimhe Cleary was also given the Highly Commended prize for KS5.

Cerys Shrewsbury in Y12 is one of our A Level PE students who was informed this week that she has made the training squad for the England U18 Girls Rugby Team. Cerys has an England training weekend forthcoming where she will be striving to be selected  for her first England cap  with an international match scheduled for April. In a similar vein we were also very pleased to hear that Jack Gartside in Year 13 has received confirmation that he has qualified to compete in the British Swimming Championships / Olympic Trials in the 100m and 200m butterfly which is a tremendous achievement.

The Astroturf fundraising has gained some incredible recent momentum and we are now almost halfway towards our £100,000 target - the grand total of pledged or received funds now stands at £44,525. The school is very grateful for all contributions. Please Click Here

Due to the delay in the release of the Ofqual / DfE consultation results for GCSEs / A levels, we have taken the decision to move the Year 11 Parents’ Evening next term from Thursday 25th February to Thursday 25th March.  A separate email detailing this decision has been sent today to all Year 11 parents and carers.

I have asked teachers not to set work for any year group during the holiday period and I hope all students have a good break with as much screen free time as possible!
