Northampton School for Boys

Headmaster's Bulletin 24th November 2017

The rugby posts on Wednesday were doing a virtual limbo dance in stormy winds as the two First XVs from NSB and Stamford braved the elements to compete in a titanic battle in the Midlands 'A' Final of the NatWest cup.

Despite having to take on a far heavier opposing pack, the NSB boys were heroic in their defence and bounced back twice from deficits to claim a magnificent victory by 27 points to 17 points. All players were outstanding but, given the supremely unpleasant conditions, a special mention should be made for the sublime kicking of Tyler Mills (Y12) who landed each of his five kicks from all over the field, including one from just over the halfway line, often having to start the ball 15m outside of the posts for the wind to gust it back in. The draw for the Quarter Finals is live from Twickenham later today.

The school has been actively promoting the national campaign 'Switch off Fortnight' which runs through this week to the end of next. The campaign teaches students as to how we can easily save energy and why it is important to do so in terms of supporting the health of our planet. Many of the ideas are common sense and I am pleased with the way in which students have embraced the project. We also look forward to a reduced electricity bill for the school this year as a result! Next week sees the eagerly anticipated KS4 and 5 Drama production: Birdsong which is from the classic book of the same name written by acclaimed author, Sebastian Faulks. The story, which focuses on the complexities of love and war, also brings starkly to life the horrors of trench warfare during World War 1. Tickets are on sale from the Box Office for the two evenings of Thursday November 30th and Friday December 1st. Students watching the Production should be aged 14  plus. Please Click Here
