Matt Smith

Former Northampton School for Boys Head Boys Matt Smith was recently in seen by many of us in the Christmas BBC1 movie 'The Ruby in the Smoke'. He was lucky enough to land the key role of Jim Taylor in the adaptation of this best selling children's novel by Phil Pullman.

He starred alongside Dr Who star Billie Piper and Oscar nominated actress Julie Walters.

'The Ruby In The smoke' is the first in a quartet of novels and Matt and Billie have already filmed the sequel 'The Shadow in the North'.

Although only 24, Matt's already built up an impressive list of acting credits. He was halfway through his degree in Drama and Creative Writing at Norwich University when he was picked from thousands to play Thomas Becket in a National Youth Theatre production of T.S Eliot's 'Murder in the Cathedral'.

Critical acclaim for his performance led to him being offered others parts and after graduating, he appeared in the Alan Bennett's 'The History Boys' on stage , then went on to star in a trilogy of short new plays at the National Theatre: 'Burn', 'Chatroom' and 'Citizenship'.

Matt and Billie have already finished filming the sequel 'The Shadow in the North' but Matt's agent has been fielding requests for him ever since Christmas and has already got half a dozen auditions lined up for him.

Matt is currently to be seen in the high profile TV drama series 'Party Animals'.
