The wait is over for all Dr Who fans as the announcement was made on 3rd January BBC1 at 5.35pm that Matt Smith will be taking over the role from David Tennant.
At Northampton School for Boys Matt was passionate about football and planned a career in this field but an injury changed his focus to drama where he was encouraged by former NSB Drama teacher Jerry Hardingham.
Smith's TV debut was in the 2006 adaptation of Philip Pullman's 'The Ruby in the Smoke' and 'The Shadow in the North' in 2007 where he acted opposite Doctor Who star Billie Piper.
The Ex-NSB student's biggest television role has been in the BBC2 political drama 'Party Animals' in 2007, in which Matt played a parliamentary researcher.
The actor's stage work has included stints with theatre companies such as London's Royal Court in Polly Stenham's award winning play 'That Face' where his performance gained Matt an Evening Standard Best Newcomer nomination.
